Collagen, Elastin and Gravity
Several things contribute to the formation of under-eye wrinkles. The first is the unavoidable process of aging. As you age, your skin loses collagen, which keeps your skin tight. You also lose elastin, which keeps your skin elastic. Collagen makes your skin appear firm and smooth. Elastin helps it "bounce back" when a wrinkle forms under the eye due to smiling, crying or other expressions.
Once you hit the magic age of 30, your skin starts to decrease its production of collagen and elastin. This means that wrinkles are able to form much easier, especially in the skin under the eye because that layer of skin is so thin. In addition, gravity pulls hard on that fragile skin under the eye, leading to drooping and deep wrinkles.
Sleep and Expressions
There are other factors that contribute to the development of wrinkles under the eyes besides aging. Sleeping can cause wrinkles, which are sometimes called "sleep lines." As we sleep, we compress our eyes and face against a pillow. Even the act of closing our eyes creates wrinkles which are pressed into our skin as we sleep. Again, this is especially true of the sensitive area under our eyes.
Expressions also cause wrinkles to form. When we smile, our eyes tend to "crinkle up." Look in a mirror and smile, and you will see wrinkle lines appear under your eyes as your cheeks are pushed up by your mouth muscles. The more you smile, the more wrinkles are reinforced. Don't take this as a reason to stop smiling, however! Simply hydrate the skin around your eyes daily to keep it moist and flexible.
Sun and Smoke
It's difficult to protect your skin from the natural processes of aging, sleeping or smiling, but you can protect your skin from two other wrinkle-causing factors: Sunshine and smoke. "...Been hiding your age from the whole world? But for how much time will this keep going? Or got fed up hoping those tempting anti aging creams, hurtful surgery and unhealthy chemicals? Do Not Worry, dear. Here is a natural treatment to look and get younger, healthier and sexier than you are. So here it is for you Anti-aging Foods..". If you are someone who spends time in bright sunshine, you probably squint a lot. The act of squinting causes wrinkles to form under the eyes. In addition, the harsh rays of the sun break down the skin's natural defenses and elasticity, leaving it dry and prone to wrinkling. You can protect your skin by applying a sunscreen before you spend time out in the sun.
Smoking also causes wrinkles to appear under the eyes, often prematurely. This is caused by the fact that smoke around your eyes causes you to squint. Smoke, like the sun, also dries out the skin, creating even more wrinkles. Again, this can be prevented by quitting smoking altogether and making sure you keep the skin under your eyes protected and hydrated.
