How to Prevent Facial Aging

A former model once told me that when a woman walks into a dermatologist's office, he can immediately tell her age by looking at her neck. Here are some tips to prevent facial aging, but don't forget to apply them to your neck area as well!

    Sleep on your back to avoid pulling on the delicate skin of your face. If you just can't sleep on your back, use a silk pillowcase so there is less pulling on your skin.

    Stick to a nightly routine of cleansing your face of the dirt, makeup and oil of the day to keep pores small and tight and prevent skin irritation. Gently wash your face with cleanser, splash rinse and pat dry.

    Be gentle with the delicate skin around your eyes. Wash this area very carefully to avoid any pulling. When applying cream or makeup, use your ring finger for a lighter, more delicate touch.     Don't smoke as smoking generates a lot of free radicals and can speed the aging process. It can also cause lines and aging above your lip.

    Be vigilant when it comes to sun exposure. Always use SPF containing makeup and moisturizers. Wear large sunglasses to keep from squinting constantly, which can lead to expression lines. If you can't stay off the beach or out of the sun, along with Sun block, make sure to wear a hat with a brim to keep the sun off your face. Just remember to NEVER leave your house without some form of sun block on your face and neck area (at the very least).

    Exercise. It seems to be a key step in any beauty and health regimen. Exercise increases blood circulation and metabolism. It keeps you young and healthy which in turn will keep your skin looking young and fresh as well. Exercise at least 3 times a week. Yoga is a great activity because it's a good form a physical exercise yet it is also relaxing. Something else to consider is that exercise plays a major role in weight management and having a lot of big weight fluctuations can affect the elasticity of your skin.

    Keeping hydrated and eating a balanced diet is necessary to prevent premature facial skin aging.

    Use natural products when you can. Using a facial cream that is full of unnatural products is not going to prevent skin again. Consider using virgin coconut oil as a skin moisturizer. It takes longer to absorb into your skin then many store bought creams, but it has many good properties and will keep your skin healthy and fresh. I also like Mineral make-up which also contains SPF.

    Consume antioxidants to help your body eliminate free radicals which lead to aging. Green Tea, Zinc and Vitamins A,C and E will boost your body's ability fight off free radicals.

    Accept that you are going to continue to get older and along with that, you will notice signs of aging. These tips are to help us age gracefully. Take care of your body because it's the only one you get!
