How to Make an Eye Bruise Lighter

Sometimes an eye bruise happens at absolutely the wrong time; like right before you must go on a job interview or before a wedding ceremony. Making an eye bruise lighter is a priority when an important event is near -- or when you are concerned about appearance. A bruise or contusion is the effect of blood pooling in the area of injury. Reduce the pooling effect and the bruise will be less prominent.

Instructions

Ice the bruise right away. As soon as you sustain an injury to the eye area, put ice on it for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, once or twice that day. This will limit the amount of bleeding in the area which lightens the bruise and also reduces swelling. Crushed ice in a plastic bag or even a bag of frozen vegetables will work well for the eye area. Continue to apply ice each day.

Apply comfrey tea. According to Home-remedies-for-you.com, this type of tea reduces the amount of discoloration of the bruise. Put the tea bag directly over the bruised area, or put the tea bag on top of an ice pack, and apply both simultaneously. Keep tea from running into the eye to avoid discomfort or eye irritation.

Do not take aspirin. This particular pain reliever could lead to additional discoloration, because it discourages coagulation. Take acetaminophen instead, to lessen pain without adding to the prominence of a black eye.

Use makeup to lighten the appearance of a bruise. Put foundation or a concealer on the bruised area, to soften the deep purple, black or green tones. Apply the makeup with a cotton ball, makeup applicator, or sterile material to avoid getting bacteria, or your fingers in your eye.
