Longest Acting Dermal Fillers

Many dermal fillers available today are made of natural or synthetic materials and not from animal products. Hyaluronic acid, for example, occurs naturally in our bodies. Many dermal fillers using these ingredients are long-lasting and have fewer side effects than animal-based products like bovine collagen. However, some procedures have not been approved by the FDA for use in cosmetic ehancement in the United States.

Sculptra

Sculptra, or NewFill, is a poly L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic polymer typically used to fill problem areas such as sunken cheeks. Injections are given over a period of months and results can last more than a year.

Hyaluronic Acid

Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane are a few of the more commonly used long-lasting dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid, a lubricating gel that attracts water to the site to plump up wrinkled or lined areas of the face. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our bodies, so side effects are minimal with this type of dermal filler and results vary, lasting from three to eight months. Brands of permanent dermal filler that uses hyaluronic acid to fill wrinkles and folds, reshape lips and diminish scars include Dermalive and Dermadeep. Dermalive is used to plump sunken areas of the face such as cheeks, and to give volume to areas such as the chin and lips. Dermadeep fills in deeper wrinkles or folds in your skin. Although they are called permanent fillers, the effects of Dermalive and Dermadeep fade over time and you may need subsequent treatments to maintain the cosmetic appearance.

Radiesse

Radiesse (or Radiance) is made up of calcium-based micro-spheres combined into a gel that is injected into the lines or sunken areas of your skin. Results can last more than one year, making it one of the longer-lasting dermal fillers.

Softform or Ultrasoft

Softform or Ultrasoft contains bio-compatible material, typically used in medical settings like heart surgeries, and acts more like an implant than a dermal filler. Softform is an alloplast, which means that although it is synthetic, it is compatible to the soft tissue in the face.The implant is soft and flexible, making it ideal to fill frown and cheek lines. Once it is implanted, Softform remains permanently, unless the patient has it removed.
