Uses of Restylane

Restylane, a brand name for a form of hyaluronic acid, was developed in Sweden and has been on the world market since 1996. It's a clear gel that is biodegradable and considered to be a safe and gentle wrinkle treatment. A small needle injects tiny amounts into the area, and the results are usually instant. Restylane treatments can last up to nine months. If you are considering Restylane treatment, research the doctor in advance, as the results are very dependent upon technique.

Lips

One of the most common uses for Restylane is in the lips. Younger patients use it to plump and shape their lips and older patients use it to restore and add a more youthful look to their lips. People who smoke use it to decrease the fine lines caused by smoking. Injecting the lips can produce more adverse effects than any other area. If not injected properly, it can result in bruising and swelling, and lip injections are typically quite uncomfortable.

Fine Lines

Many of those receiving Restylane treatments use it for fine lines and wrinkles, including crow's feet and frown lines as well as wrinkles in the forehead area. It is usually used in conjunction with Botox treatments and will only have to be used once if good Botox therapy is performed. Small amounts and a very fine needle are used when treating tiny lines with Restylane. It will plump the wrinkles, giving the area an overall smoother look.

Deep Lines

Some areas on the face end up with deeper lines, creases and wrinkles, and Restylane is used for those as well. The nasolabial folds, which are the lines running from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth, respond well to Restylane. The lines in this area are a result of fat loss, and the treatments offer a more youthful look. Because this area is close to the nose and involves less movement, the correction can be long-lasting.

Cheeks

As people age, the face starts to lose fullness and appears to sag. Cheek augmentation is another use for Restylane. It's used at the level of the cheekbones to give the face a rejuvenated look. It's also used to treat the marionette lines in between the corners of the mouth and the sides of the chin. Other uses are for the areas in between the chin and the jowls and between the lower eyelid and the cheek.
