Facial Exercises for the Lips

Facial toning exercises are a natural alternative to cosmetic surgery. Lip exercises tone the muscles in your face, which may reduce signs of facial sagging. As an added benefit, lip exercises not only tone the lip area, they tone the cheeks, jaw and neck. For the best results, perform lip exercises every other day.

Kiss Your Nose

To perform this exercise, start with your mouth closed and your lips tightly pressed together. Pucker your lips and point them upward as if you are trying to kiss the tip of your nose. Hold the puckered position for five seconds. After five seconds, bring your lips back to the starting position. Repeat this exercise five times.

The Fish

    This exercise tones your lips and your cheeks. To perform the "Fish," start with your mouth held in a puckered position as if you are kissing someone. Push your lips out as far as they will go and suck in your cheeks, while maintaining the puckered position of your lips. Hold this position for five seconds before bringing your lips back in to a regular puckered kiss position. Repeat this exercise five times.

Smile for the Camera

    Smile for the camera while toning your lips, cheeks, jaws and neck. (OK, you don't really have to do this in front of a camera.) Start with your mouth closed and your jaw clenched so that your back teeth are touching each other. Smile as big as you can. Hold your big smile for five seconds before relaxing your mouth and bringing it back to the starting position. Repeat this exercise 10 times.

Kiss Me Not

    The "Kiss Me Not" exercise tones your lips and your cheeks. Start with your mouth held in a puckered kissing position. Curl your lips in so that they are touching your teeth. Hold the curled in position for 10 seconds before bringing your lips back out to the puckered position. Repeat the "Kiss Me Not" 10 times.

The Horse

    This exercise tones your lips, jaw and your cheeks. Start this exercise with your mouth held in a relaxed position and your lips slightly parted. Curl your upper lip upward toward your nose so that you look like a whinnying horse. Hold this position for 10 seconds before relaxing your lips. Repeat this exercise five times.

Mix It Up

    You can do all of the lip exercises, some of them, or mix it up at any given time---the choice is up to you. If you bore easily, you might find a varied lip routine works best for you. Try doing the horse and the fish on one day then the kiss your nose, smile for the camera and the kiss me not on another day.
