Lip lines form as we age, but they can also be a result of sun exposure and other environmental damages. Fractional resurfacing treatment removes lip lines by promoting the growth of collagen, which smooths your skin. Thousands of holes are poked through the affected area by the Fraxel laser. Unlike Ebrium laser treatment, however, fractional resurfacing takes five treatments and you have to wait a month between each session.

Injection treatments, such as Botox, are a better option for lip lines if you cannot afford laser removal. Also, injections do not cause as many side effects, according to Gloss. These collagen-based injections last around six months. They fill in and lift your lip lines, giving your skin a smoother appearance. You can even use Botox in conjunction with laser removal treatments, depending upon how severe your lip lines are.

Whether you currently have lip lines or not, you can take preventive measures to keep them from forming. Wear a lipstick or lip balm with an SPF of 15 or higher. If using a lip balm, apply it on the outside of your lips as well as on the lips. Use a facial sunscreen around your lips, an often neglected area. Also, do not smoke, and keep your skin hydrated by drinking eight glasses of water a day.
