Facial exercises may facilitate toning and balancing of facial muscles possibly reducing asymmetrical facial features, such as uneven eyebrows or a crooked smile. However, they won't prevent or eliminate wrinkles, which are a result of the loss of skin elasticity occurring naturally with age, sun exposure and the impact of years of habitual facial expressions.
Strengthening the Muscles of the Jawline
While relaxing the upper facial muscles, close your mouth and clench your teeth, flexing the muscles in your neck. While holding this position move the corners of your mouth downward while slowly raising the chin. Repeat slowly five times, increasing the number as it becomes easier until repeating 10 times.
Eyebrow Lift
Gently place your index fingers so they are slightly above and parallel to the eyebrows. Open your eyes as wide as possible and lift your brow while gently pushing against your fingers causing mild resistance. This shouldn't be uncomfortable or painful. Repeat 10 times.
Eyebrows are sometimes uneven and the asymmetry can be exacerbated by age. Performing eyebrow muscle resistance exercises can reduce the look of crookedness by evening and strengthening the muscles above the eyes.
Cheek Lift I
Pull your bottom lip over your top lip and raise the corners of your mouth as though smiling. Hold this position while pulling your chin up flexing the muscles of your neck. Hold for five seconds. As the exercise becomes easier, hold longer, one second at a time until holding for 10 seconds, repeating each session five times.
Cheek Lift II
Stretching your lips forward, make a circle with your lips as though trying to grasp a straw that is just out of your reach. Raise the corners of your lips as high as possible while maintaining the forward position with your lips. This will cause resistance as you try to smile while simultaneously maintaining the circle with your lips. Hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times.
