Dark circles under the eyes are a common beauty complaint of women, and the appearance of dark circles only seems to increase with age. Dark circles can occur for a number of reasons, including sun exposure, circulatory problems, nutritional deficiencies, stress and aging. Getting enough sleep, protecting your skin from the sun, getting enough iron and vitamin K, and keeping stress in check are good ways to prevent undereye circles from forming. However, there are plenty of medical alternatives for reducing the appearance of dark circles if you already have them. The most popular medical procedures are discussed below.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a safe and convenient way to reduce dark, undereye circles. It also costs significantly less than other medical treatments. The procedure involves using a laser to dissolve damaged cells, revealing newer, more even-toned skin. Local anesthesia and/or a sedative medication are used to minimize pain during the procedure, and eye protection is required to keep the lasers from damaging eyes. The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis and can take from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the size of the area being resurfaced.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

An intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial is another option for reducing dark circles under eyes. The light works by constricting blood vessels and collagen under the skin, reducing skin damage and signs of aging. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes and involves little pain and discomfort. There will be some redness and swelling after the procedure, but they usually go away fairly quickly. It may take up to two weeks for the benefits of the intense pulsed light to become apparent.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel involves the application of acidic chemicals to burn away dead or damaged layers of skin and reveal newer, smoother skin. If you want to reduce the appearance of dark circles under your eyes, a chemical peel may work for you. Some risks are involved, including swelling, scarring, infection and cold sores, but these risks can be minimized by following your doctor's directions for caring for your skin after the procedure. Be sure to give your complete medical history to your doctor before you have a chemical peel.

Injectable Dermal Fillers

Undereye darkness can be the result of shadows that are caused by slight recesses in the skin. If this is the case regarding your undereye circles, injectable dermal fill procedures may be something to look into. Two such procedures are collagen injection and fat transfer. "...Been hiding your age from the whole entire world? But for how long will this go on? Or got fed up hoping those tempting anti aging creams, painful surgery and unhealthy chemicals? Do Not Worry, dear. Here is a natural treatment to look and get younger, healthier and sexier than you are. So here it is for you Anti-aging Foods..". Collagen is a protein found naturally in the body and can be injected to give skin a fuller, more youthful look. Fat transfer, also called microlipoinjection, involves using fat from your own body to fill in wrinkles or recesses in your skin. For the right candidate, these procedures can help reduce the appearance of dark circles.
