Basic Facial Exercises

The face uses muscles to talk, smile, laugh and frown. Strengthening and toning the facial muscles helps prevent and minimize wrinkles that set in with age. The more toned the muscles, the less wrinkles and the more shape to the face. People who perform these basic facial exercises every day see results over several months. Before exercising the face, however, people must use a moisturizer over the area to prevent stretching the skin.

Eye Wink

    An exercise that helps reduce the fine wrinkles around the eyes, called crows feet, involves winking. Keep one eye open at all times, and partially close the other eye. Lip Strengthener

    The lip strengthener helps develop the muscles around the mouth, making lips appear fuller. Simply open the jaw slightly and stick both index fingers into the sides of the mouth. Contract the cheeks so that the index fingers stay about an inch and a half apart. Then, contract the mouth muscles more so the index fingers almost touch. Hold this for two seconds and repeat about 25 times.

Temple Stretch

    The temple stretch exercise gets rid of bagginess under the eyes or puffiness in eyelids. Press your fingertips to the temples and pull them slightly back and up. Then, tightly close your eyes only using the eye muscles. People sometimes want to wrinkle the forehead when doing this exercise, but only use eye muscles. The forehead should stay smooth. Hold this position for a second and repeat about 25 times.
