Face Wrinkles &amp; Weight Loss

Losing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercise can do wonders for your body and the overall condition of your skin. However, it can do a number on your face. Part of the contouring on your face is achieved by fat. As you lose fat in your face, whether by weight loss or by age, the skin has less mass under it to fill it out and it begins to wrinkle and sag. Over-the-counter creams containing retinol, a similar Vitamin A-derived ingredient, may help slightly but retinol molecules are too big to penetrate into the deeper levels of the skin. Tretinoin is the only form of Vitamin A that is small enough to penetrate into the dermal layer, where collagen is produced.

Facial exercises may help in restoring firmness to the face, which will give some relief for wrinkling. There are several programs out there, but one was started by a woman who wanted to reduce the aging effects of weight loss. Deborah Crowley began developing FlexEffect in the 1970s to improve the youthful firmness of her own face. Facercise, by Carole Maggio, is a regimen of facial exercises that has received praise for its effectiveness.
