Triangles in the Face

The symmetric and paired facial features create triangular shapes across the face. Facial rejuvenation and cosmetic physicians, such as Dr. Joseph Hkeik, have labeled four triangles in the face that shape a person's facial beauty and youthful appearance. The "triangles of beauty" can be altered to regain the desired appearance through various techniques.

Facial Shape

Opposed to a round, heart-shaped or oval faces, many women have a triangular facial shape. The lower cheek area is thin and tapered downward toward the chin. The chin is pronounced and extends downward from the remainder of the face thus resulting in a youthful appearance. When people with a triangular face age, the lower cheeks tend to sag down to the level of the chin; making them look older.

Expressive Triangle of Beauty

Dr. Hkeik claims that the triangle created if you draw a line between the eyes and connect the eyes to the lips is called the expressive triangle of beauty. This downward pointing facial triangle is affected by sagging under eye areas and wrinkles or lines around the lips and can be altered to re-establish the expressive nature of the face.

Structural Triangle of Beauty

The imaginary triangle formed by cheekbones and the chin is called the structural triangle of beauty, by All Saints Cosmetics. When connecting the two cheekbones together and mentally drawing lines from each cheekbone to the center of the chin, this facial triangle is formed. Over time, the skin covering pronounced cheekbones sags down to the cheek area and causes the structural triangle to become more of a square.

Subconscious Triangle of Beauty

The subconscious triangle of beauty is formed by drawing an imaginary line across the most prominent section of the forehead and connecting the endpoints of that line with the tip of the nose. Many people suffering from sagging and wrinkling forehead skin often seek Botox injections to reinstate the subconscious triangle of beauty and smooth out the skin, by relaxing the muscles that pull it down.
